AAPM International Council Associates Mentorship Program (ICAMP)
The International Council Associates Mentorship Program (ICAMP) is a prestigious program that recognizes and cultivates outstanding medical physicists at an early stage in their careers. The program aims to promote a long-term commitment to global health and international activities within the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). ICAMP uses a mentorship and shadowing model, allowing Associates to engage and participate with the International Council and its related internationally focused activities.
The ICAMP Working Group will select six Associates. Each Associate will be paired with a mentor from the International Council and its committees, such as:
- Global Research and Scientific Innovation Committee (GRSIC)
- Global Medical Physics Education and Training Committee (GMPETC)
- Global Clinical Education and Training Committee (GCETC)
- Global Data and Information Exchange Committee (GDIEC)
- Global Needs Assessment Committee (GNAC)
The ICAMP Associates will be paired with a mentor in June 2024 and will participate in the program through the end of calendar year 2025. Associates will meet with their mentor regularly throughout the tenure of the program and will attend ICAMP meetings. They will actively participate in selected meetings of their mentor’s AAPM activities, engage in relevant AAPM committees (chosen with input from the mentor), and shadow various AAPM-related activities within the International Council, such as committee meetings and activities at the AAPM Annual Meeting. Each Associate will be engaged in a specific IC project, selected in coordination with the mentor.
Each Associate will be reimbursed up to $2,000 to cover travel-related expenses, including flight, hotel, and meeting registration to attend the AAPM 2024 Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Los Angeles, California and the 2025 Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Washington, DC.

ICAMP is sponsored by the AAPM International Council and administered by the Global Research and Scientific Innovation Committee (GRSIC) with the Global Research Mentorship Subcommittee (GRMSC) and Global Early-Career Research Subcommittee (GECRSC).
Eligibility Criteria
- Early-career Medical Physicists within five years of earning a terminal degree. To apply, applicants must be currently in one of the following positions: junior faculty, staff (clinic or industry), postdoc or residency.
- Must be a member of AAPM at the time of application (any membership category) and maintain membership for the duration of the award period. Pending membership status not acceptable.
- Prior recipients of other similar mentorship programs, specifically the Science Council Associates Mentorship Program (SCAMP), are ineligible.
- Applicants applying to both ICAMP and SCAMP programs in the same funding cycle should prepare separate applications, clearly indicating why they think each of the programs would be a good fit for them. Applicants applying to both programs may only be awarded one mentorship.
Application Process and Supporting Documents
- Cover letter outlining current contributions to Medical Physics research, describing future career plans, and reasons for interest in mentorship with within the International Council. Applicants may specify the committee(s) and/or committee member(s) of interest within the International Committee structure and list potential mentors that they would be interested in being matched with. The cover letter should include a clear statement of the applicant’s commitment to attend in-person the AAPM 2024 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California and the 2025 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
- International Engagement Statement (maximum one-page, single spaced) that describes the Applicant’s commitment to fostering and supporting global collaboration in the field of medical physics, especially as it relates to experiences, specific goals for international engagement through participation on ICAMP.
- A Diversity Statement (maximum one-page, single spaced) that describes the Applicant’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially as it relates to AAPM’s strategic goals.
- CV (no more than 4 pages)
- Letter of support from institution or employer indicating support for the time commitment that ICAMP requires, including attendance and participation at the AAPM 2024 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California and the 2025 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Note that this is NOT a letter of reference or evaluation but a letter indicating support for participation.
- Must be an AAPM member (any membership category, including international members) at the time of application.
